The Science Behind Intimacy
People who have good intimate relationships generally show better robustness towards the ups and downs and the stresses we are constantly faced with in life. This is both the case for emotional intimacy with friends and family and the intimate relationship with yourself and our partner.
We recognize that sexual health and female intimate health are both areas associated with taboo and stigma. At Thedrug.Store we believe that taboo has to be broken and we do it by curating a selection of products and events to tackle this.
Dr Julie Moltke shares some advice on intimacy:
The importance of talking about intimacy: We have probably all experienced how hard it can be to talk about certain issues related to our sexual health. Nobody likes to talk about erectile problems or bacterial vaginosis that can cause a foul smelling fishy odour. But since problems with our sexual health are as common as other health issues, we better start talking about it. To our friends, family and partners - sexual health is not a taboo.
Taking probiotics for our sexual health: If you are among the big proportion of women who experience a problem with yeast infections or bacterial vaginosis here are some tips for you. Both conditions are caused by an overgrowth of certain species of the microbiome. Applying a bit of yogurt or kefir to the vagina and vulva for a week can actually be a cheap and easy way to return the microbiome to normal.
Sex is fun: Sex should neither be too serious or too intimidating. It should rather be a fun relationship between two people exploring what works and what doesn’t. Laugh, giggle, make sounds. Real life sex is about experimenting with what brings you pleasure, joy and relaxation.
Learn more about your own body: This applies mostly to women. Sadly many women are not even aware of their own anatomy. In a recent survey 60% of women could not name their vulva correctly on a drawing. Understand where clitoris and G-spot are, and how they function. Look at your female organs with a mirror and get to know yourself.
Reduce your stress levels for better sexual health: Stress can lead to elevated levels of stress hormones which in turn reduces your sex-drive and it can cause erectile dysfunction in men. Taking a look at your life and stressors together with your partner can increase the quality of your intimate life to increase and further develop. For intimacy, love and sexual pleasure presence is imperative. Make sure to cultivate presence and commitment and leave your work and worries outside the bedroom.
