THE BEST WAY TO WORK OUT AT HOME
Spring is usually the season when we get excited because the weather gets better, the days are longer and we generally feel happier. It’s a time when we usually like to go out in parks and start exercising more. Going out for runs or walks, we’re generally more eager to be outside and get our bodies moving. Unfortunately this year, things are different and we all have to stay home for everyone’s safety, which puts a toll on the usual spring-excitement. However, we’re allowed to go outside for a little exercise and we really have to make the most of it, while still being careful.
In normal circumstances, even those who aren’t the working out type manage to get some exercise when they commute. Living in a big city, we usually manage to get at least 5.000 steps in just by going and coming back to work. Well, now that we’re at home, it’s hard to even get above the 1.000 step-line, which would be fine for a day or two, but on the long term, you need to exercise to move your body more.
Why does exercising matter so much?
Exercise is not just about getting more fit, or building muscles or showing how strong and fast you can be. Of course, the main reason why people like to work is to push themselves physically and being in shape. But exercising and working out also has an impact on the way you feel mentally. Getting your body moving will impact your mental health more than you can think. And you don’t need to go for a long run, do a HIIT class or do anything crazy… a short jog or even a walk outside can improve the way you feel, especially when the weather is nice. While it’s going to energize your body, exercising is also going to allow you to sleep better in the evening. And good, restorative sleep is a great way to boost your immune system, which we all need to make sure of now more than ever. The efforts you're putting in are also going to help lower your stress levels.
This time is particularly difficult for people who live in a small space, as you literally have nowhere to go when you can’t go into multiple rooms. It’s easy to get in a slump as your mind and body are just going round and round. A change in scenery is good for the mind, and many people have no choice but to be in the same room all day.
Why is it better to workout in the morning?
Working out means putting your body through a lot of efforts and when it’s over you feel like you could collapse and you just want to go to sleep. But we often hear people saying that they feel good after a workout...so why is that? Although you may feel tired, when you workout (especially if it’s a rare occurrence), you put your body through a mild shock, which will release some endorphins aka energy. That’s why some people feel like they could conquer the world after a workout.
Whether you exercise for 15 minutes or an hour, it also gives your body and mind a sense of accomplishment , which will boost your mood for the rest of the day and help you be more focused and productive.
Luckily, we live in an era where we have access to so much from home thanks to technology. Head over to YouTube and you can find millions of workout videos, all different types and for every level...which doesn’t give you any excuse not to workout.
